ORIENTATION ON THE PHILIPPINE EIS SYSTEM IMPLEMENTATION FOR PROSPECTIVE EIA REVIEWERS
The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), through its Environmental Impact Assessment and Management Division (EIAMD), conducted an orientation on the Philippine Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) System for prospective EIA Reviewers in Quezon City for Luzon on 27 April 2023, in Cagayan de Oro City for Mindanao on 03 August 2023, and in Cebu City for the first batch in Visayas on 17 August 2023. This event is in line with EMB’s aim to continuously improve the implementation of the review and evaluation of Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) applications through the expansion of current pool of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Reviewers.
Thirty-two (32) participants from the Environmental Management Bureau Central and Regional Offices have successfully completed the Training on Advanced Meteorology and its Impact on Air Quality, which ran from March 23 to May 29, 2023.

DENR-EMB LEADS TRIPLE ENVIRONMENTAL CELEBRATIONS IN NOVEMBER
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) brings to the fore the importance of environmental awareness as it leads the celebration of three environmental events this month.
The Environmental Management Bureau-Central Office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (EMB-DENR) announced that it has earned International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 certification for Quality Management System (QMS), after an extensive audit of the bureau’s internal operations.
In compliance with RA 8749 or the Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999, as well as Section 2 of DENR Administrative Order (DAO) 2000-81 or the Review of Air Quality Guideline Values, the Environmental Management Bureau-Department of Environment and Natural Resources (EMB-DENR), together with its created Technical Working Group (TWG) reviewed the Particulate Matter 2.5 (PM2.5) Air Quality Index (AQI) Breakpoints.

DENR-EMB SEEKS TO OBTAIN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 ACCREDITATION

PH TO HOST A HIGH-LEVEL MEET ON ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE CITIES
The Philippines will host this September 29-30 an international conference dedicated to promoting urban environmental sustainability. The 11th High-Level Seminar on Environmentally Sustainable Cities will take place via Zoom and will be hosted by the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources as the co-organizer together with the Ministry of Environment of Japan and Institute of Global Environmental Strategies.

DENR EMB ROLLS OUT NEW ONLINE SYSTEM TO MONITOR LGU COMPLIANCE WITH SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT LAW
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) has rolled out its enhanced online monitoring system to efficiently track compliance of local government units (LGUs) to the country’s solid waste management law. EMB Director William Cuñado said the agency is tapping 307 environmental monitoring and enforcement officers (ENMOs) assigned all over the country to use the new system of reporting which, he said, is “simpler and faster than the previous method.”

CONSULTATION ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONAL AIR QUALITY STATUS REPORT 2016-2018
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), through the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), facilitated the online consultation on 05 June 2020 on the development of National Air Quality Status Report.The consultation served as avenue for the government agencies to incorporate their accomplishments and challenges in the implementation of the Philippine Clean Air Actin the draft National Air Quality Status Report 2016-2018.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), through the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), facilitated the National Air Quality Management Training Workshop for Policy Updates and Online Permitting and Monitoring System (OPMS) on 02-06March2020.The workshop aims to assess and improve the OPMS functionality prior to its implementation. The EMB Region 3 –Regional Director welcomed participants from the EMB Regional Offices.

For the implementation of the EMB MC 2020-17 also known as “Guidelines for Issuance of Permit to Operate (PTO) for Air Pollution Source Installation or Equipment (APSI/APSE) through the Online Permitting and Monitoring System (OPMS)” and in preparation for the OPMS-PTO to be fully operational to the public, DENR Environmental Management Bureau-Air Quality Management Section (EMB-AQMS) has successfully held a two (2) day Video Conference Meeting for the Presentation of New Features and Final Arrangements for the pre-launch of Permit To Operate (PTO) through the Online Permitting And Monitoring System (OPMS) for EMB Regional Offices via Microsoft Teams on May 11 –12, 2020.
